20 THINGS ABOUT DESIGNER ANITA DONGRE

#KateMiddleton wore a Anita  Dongre ankle-length classic #Jaipur-inspired Gulrukh tunic dress (for her mandatory  pilgrimage to a slum in Mumbai). Forget Kate. Let's talk about the successful Indian designer. ðŸ˜Š

1. This 50-year-old Creative Director of labels Global Desi and AND  began her career with two sewing machines in the balcony of her house!
2. Her first collection comprised of 12 linen dresses. She took them to a boutique visited frequently by Bollywood stars.
3. She sold nine of those dresses in two days.
4.Today she has more than 85 stores and 4 brands under her name.
5.House of Anita Dongre has a workforce of more than 2600 associates.
6. It is the first fashion house in the country in which a private Equity firm-General Atlantic has made an investment.
7. Anita's fashion sensibility is inspired by the rich heritage of #Rajasthan.
8.She wakes up at 6.15 am and listens to the chirping of birds.
9. She does #yoga for 1 1/2 hours and  eats South Indian breakfast of idlis/upama.
10. Ideates and designs before noon.
11. She watches tv for 30 mts after dinner and reads for an hour before going to bed at 10 pm.
12.Loud music in the background (#Celine Dion, #Rihanna, #Beyonce and #Madonna) is a must while she dresses up. And she's always borrowing house and trance music cds from her son and his friends.
13. She swears by Armani and Anna Sui's dresses.
14. She usually dresses up in comfy shirt dresses and flip flops to work.
15. Her personal wardrobe consists of white, cream and yellow. But no lilac, because the colour makes her sad.
16. No peplums for her. Make the hips look large, it seems.
17. She's a social recluse - most of the time.
18. Not much of a make-up person and more of a wash and blow-dry-hair kinda person. "Hair is what makes women appear feminine and sexy at the same time," she often says.
19. She's an impulsive shopper.
20.She also used to  buy clothes a size smaller thinking that it would inspire her to lose weight. Just like the rest of us.
But it never worked. And never will - for Anita or for the rest of the world. ðŸ˜†
