Disposable Mug, created by award-winning product designer Sandip Paul (he's the man who gave the Indian electrical industry the Spherical Bulb Holder & Angular Multi-plug) is our idea of the day. This foldable disposable mug holds 1.2 litres of water and disintegrates within 15 minutes after use. And who needs this? Of course we Indians need it - the ones who prefer plastic cups to toilet paper -- whenever we travel. This award-winning design is a game-changer. No wonder it has found a place at the Design Museum Denmark.
Necessity is the mother of all inventions. As a student Sandip, a native of Kolkata, used to travel by train. There are taps in the train lavatories, but what about containers? Nada. That's when Sandip felt the need to design a product that would be inexpensive, something foldable and portable and something that would not harm the environment when discarded. He zeroed in on a kind of recycled paper used by the food vendors in Kolkata and with the help of organic glue designed one of the most useful products. Now to find a way to mass produce this...
