THE REASON BEHIND STARTING A SUNNY SQUARE

A Sunny Square is new media stream that's all about ideas that will engage & entertain, inform & inspire without being negative, judgmental or gimmicky.

Trauma & tragedy, suffering & rage, crime & corruption dominate our lives these days via media. Here's what social psychologist Dr Lisa Williams from the University of New South Wales says: "The more we hear about events and suffering and trauma that pull at our proverbial heartstrings, the more likely that some of us just withdraw and no longer have that strong motivation to help. You might find that people are avoiding exposure to the news media, simply because they just don’t want to engage emotionally with it."

Compassion fatigue is fast becoming a universal problem. And if we succumb to it, we might turn into an insensitive generation and in the end lose our humanity.

I have spent the last 20 years in mainstream media -- as a journalist and as an editor. However, for a couple of years now, I have been dreaming to create a media stream that will be dominated by stories that will reek of positive energy, hope and progress - not in a boring-where's the hanky-kinda way, but in an engaging, entertaining and informative, hey-I-want-to-do-something-like-that or oh-this-made-me-laugh-my-eyes-out kinda way.

You get the drift...I wanted to create a platform that can engage, entertain, inform and inspire people without being negative or judgmental, intrusive or gimmicky.

In ancient times, a square in the middle of the town, was a place of gathering. This place would be the centre of all kinds of life in the city - artistic, athletic, spiritual and more. It was also a place for commercial activities, exchange of ideas and entertainment.

A Sunny Square is a modern version of that ancient square (no blood or gore here though). Over time, I hope that it would grow to become a stream where people come to make them feel good about themselves and about the world around them. To be inspired and inspire.
There are like-minded people in this mission of mine to highlight all the good in the world.

Now a question might arise: is it not important that the media (in any form or shape) highlight all that is wrong in this world and strive to bring about change? Yes, it is important. There are others who do a good job of it.

So, A Sunny Square will dedicate itself to showcasing what is right in this world and how the human race is shaping the future, through original and curated stories from varied fields - social innovations, startups, fashion and style, design and architecture, art and culture, music, films, lifestyle, environment, travel and more.

A Sunny Square is all about ideas. One of the brilliant ideas of this generation is Facebook (let's give the devil its due, okay?). And that's why we decided to officially launch A Sunny Square on FB on April 23, 2016. Even as our miracle-creators are working hard on our interactive website that will be launched soon.

A Sunny Square is not about just a bunch of articles. Oh no...it is going to be a lot more than that. It is going to be interactive, collaborative and a place for action.

It would be wonderful to have you, my friends, journey with me on this trail. I don't know where it's going to take us, but I do know it will be an interesting trek.... :)
