1. Truecaller, the phone number identification app, is the 3rd most downloaded app in India after Facebook and Whatsapp.
2. Out of its 200 million users 130 million are Indians.
3. 100 million Indian users are expected to be added to their database annually.
4. The app was founded by two Swedes Nami Zarringhalam (31)and Alan Mamedi (31) in 2009.
5. The idea came about when Mamedi found himself at the receiving end of international work-related calls everyday . And he wanted to filter the
important calls from spam. Voila!
6 . Two out of three smartphone users in India have a Truecaller app on their phone.
7. Phone numbers in the Truecaller database is crowdsourced.
8.Even if you’ve never used Truecaller, your name and number could be on the database, because some contact of yours had shared their contact list with the app.
9.However, if the owner has refused to give permission to store their number, it will not be saved in the Truecaller servers.
10. The singular reason why Truecaller is popular in India is because the user can block unwanted callers. In our books that's a good enough reason to be celebrated!
