IDEA OF THE DAY
There's a new breed of youngsters who believe that through smart eco intelligent design, many problems harming our environment and communities can be solved.
Reduce. Reuse. Grow. Is a California -based organisation that is using the plantable paper technique to protect and preserve our environment through their plantable coffee cups.
The coffee cup comes with inbuilt seeds.
You drink your coffee. Then plant the cup. And the seeds in it grow...and grow into trees someday, protecting our environment.
The seeds embeded in the cups are local to the region where the cups are sold, so that the plants grown are appropriate for the local ecosystem.
It was started by Alex Henige, a San Diego native. Reduce. Reuse. Grow. started as his landscape architecture senior project.
About his plantable cups, Alex says:
"Styrofoam (another common material for hot beverage containers) is something of an ecological nightmare, breaking down into smaller and smaller pieces which blow away on the breeze, ending up possibly eaten by animals or causing widespread pollution. I also recently found out that the part of California that I am in does not have general facilities for styrofoam recycling.

Billions of beverage containers are discarded each year and we’ve all seen pictures of the terrible mess we are making. So this project – and others like it – are an urgent priority." We agree.
