And God Said, Let There Be Light!

If I am allowed to visit just one place in this whole world, it would be the Nasir-al-Mulk Mosque in Iran. The Iranians sure knew how to build stunning structures.

It’s known as the Pink Mosque. It’s mesmerising. And makes you believe in the power of creation in humans.

The mosque is a fine example of Iranian architecture and symmetry. It was built in 1888, during the  Qjar period, in Shiraz in Iran. This period saw the creation of few wonderful mosques, baths and other structures in Shiraz.

The mosque was built by Mirza Hasan Ali, a Qajar ruler and designed by Iranian architects Mohammad Hasan-e-Memar and Mohammad Reza Kashi-Saz-e-Sirazi. It took them 12 years to build it.  Coloured glass, pink tiles and the five concaved design gives this mosque its unparalleled beauty.

The mosque begins to put on a captivating display from early morning when sunlight begins to traverse from the left side of the edifice to the right. What you see is the elegant prancing of a kalaeidoscope of colours inside the mosque in slow motion.

The light streams through stained glass windows and bathes the pink tiles with yellow flowers and also the colorful persian rugs inside the place of worship with chromatic geometric designs that takes your breath away.

It is said, that the mosque's glittering domes could be seen from miles away by travelers following the Silk Route through Iran.

Divine!
