In 2011, when footballer David Beckham became the father of a little girl, he inked her name on his chest -- "Harper." But he just couldn't get enough. So he tattooed "Pretty Lady" with a tiny lil' heart just above the "Harper" tatt. Still, he wanted something more to cherish his baby, so he got a beautiful rose tattooed on his neck celebrating his little girl.
Footballer David Beckham has 40 plus tattoos on his body. They are all tributes to his wife and children. Markers of happy moments in life.
There are millions of children around the world who carry a different kind of markers on their body and mind. Markers of violence. Something which they hadn't chosen for themselves, but which they have to bear all their life.
Beckham has joined hands with Unicef UK (he is a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador) to use tattoos to raise awareness about violence against children. Because "violence marks forever."
In a one-minute film, scenes of violence against children appear as animated tattoos on the former footballer's body, reports BBC.com. The film is a part of the campaign to end violence against children.
It is beautiful, poignant and raw. Beckham became aware of the extent of violence (physical, emotional and sexual abuse) suffered by children on a trip to Cambodia last year. He was shocked. Appalled. And said: "No child should have to endure this."
Now, the father of four is committed to doing everything he can to make the world a safer place for children. He wants to speak out on this issue. And he wants the world to speak out too.
