ABOUT

Hi,
I am Sudha Pillai, a media professional who has spent more than two decades as news & features editor* in leading news rooms in the country.

I am a writer, professional photographer, artist and a nomad at heart who is currently based in Bangalore.

Here's why I started A Sunny Square...

Trauma and tragedy, suffering and rage, crime and corruption dominate our lives these days via media. Here's what social psychologist Dr Lisa Williams from the University of New South Wales says: "The more we hear about events and suffering and trauma that pull at our proverbial heartstrings, the more likely that some of us just withdraw and no longer have that strong motivation to help. You might find that people are avoiding exposure to the news media, simply because they just don’t want to engage emotionally with it."

Compassion fatigue is fast becoming a universal problem. When we succumb to it is when we lose our humanity.

What we need is a daily dose of hope. Silver linings.
I created A Sunny Square to showcase stories which are silver linings; a platform for creative ideas and happy stories.

Join me in this journey :)

*Until April 2016 I was the News Features Editor of Bangalore Mirror. I have also worked as the Editor of Bangalore Times, Times of India and Bureau Chief of Magna Publishing. Though the print medium has always been my favourite, I have also worked as an independent television producer/director for Zee Tv and as the Creative Director (animation) and scriptwriter.

  1. This is a brilliant idea. Thank you, Sudha, for shining the light on happy, positive and inspiring stories and ideas. We focus so much on all the terrible things around us and forget that there are more good things and brave people around us than we give credit for. Look forward to more brilliant posts and wonderful stories.
