1. Google Toilet Locator is an app that will help you locate, hopefully, a clean, toilet in your surroundings asap.
2. Finding a toilet using the app is similar to locating a theater or a restaurant using Google Maps. You enter 'toilet' or 'swach' or 'swachhata' in the search bar, and the app will point you to the closest toilet.
3. The app will lead you to public toilets and also those inside public buildings like malls, hospitals, metro stations, petrol pumps, etc.
4. Be prepared. Initially, the app might not point you to the cleanest toilet (finding a clean toilet in India is like finding a needle in the haystack). It might just lead you to the nearest toilet. And if it is unclean or broken down, you can leave a review of it. The Locator is hoping to use such reviews to provide you with better search results in future.
5. Google is working with Ministry of Urban Development, India to launch the Toilet Locator.
6. The app will be launched mid-November 2016 in Delhi. And soon will be launched in other cities too.

Nine out of 10 times, solutions to enormous problems are downright simple. Here's an excellent example of that.

Millions of women across rural India suffer from iodine deficiency. This leads to complications during childbirth, fibrocystic breast disease, etc.

Grey for Good, the philanthropic arm of Grey Group Singapore wondered how to help these women get the required dosage of iodine. (Grey Group ranks is one of the largest global communications companies in the world. Some of their clients include Procter & Gamble, GlaxoSmithKline, Diageo, Pfizer, Canon, etc. In Asia, the group covers 28 cities in 16 countries and works with some of the biggest brands in the region: Hong Kong Tourism Board, HSBC, Volvo, Lenovo and so on.)

Here's how the group found a solution to the problem before them:

CHALLENGE: Supplements in the form of pills are available, but women weren't getting or taking them. So, how do you help these women get the required dosage of iodine?

THE REALIZATION: Almost every Indian woman wears a bindi – a traditional symbol of beauty. What if these tiny little dots could save lives?

THE SOLUTION: The Life Saving Dot – an idea that transformed bindis into iodine patches was born.

Every woman requires between 150 – 220 micrograms of iodine daily. These bindis dispensed that amount to the wearer daily over a 12-hour period. After which it turned into a regular bindi.

Grey collaborated with the NGO, Neil Vasant Medical Foundation, and Research Center, to produce iodine patches, known as the Life Saving Dot. This initiative is further supported by Talwar Bindi.

The Life Saving Dots were distributed to women across rural India via health camps and clinics and reached many villages.

There you have it...solutions are never comzplicated. The way we look at the problem is...

Trust the Japs to come up with creative solutions to alarming problems.

Only 2% of people succeed in getting organ transplant in Japan (children suffer the most). By far the worst in the world.

Second Life Toys (SLT) in Japan decided to create awareness about the importance of organ donation in the country.

To start this important conversation they decided to use soft toys. An object that appeals to the child (and the child in the adults). Moreover a definite way to change the future is by talking to the children of the present.

SLT's creative way to educate the public power of organ transplant involves repairing broken toys using parts donated by old toys.

This is how it works:
If someone has a toy that's well-loved but is not used then they can send it to SLT for organ donation.

Or if someone has a toy that's broken and want it fixed then they can send it to SLT for organ transplant.

For example, SLT will fix the broken trunk of an elephant with a tail donated by a squirrel or the horse's leg is made good as new with legs donated by a bear.

The operated toy is then sent back to the family with a letter from SLT about the importance of organ donation and transplant.

The 'recipient' writes a 'thank you note' to the 'donor' family explaining how the generous act offered their toy a second chance at life.

This way toys are used as an effective metaphor to make the subject of organ donation less daunting and undeniably endearing.

Maybe we too can tackle difficult social subjects using toys...and start with our children today - our way to changing the future 😊

A group of researchers have created a silicone membrane that closely resembles and adheres to the skin. It can be used to treat eczema and other skin conditions; and also to eliminate wrinkles and under-eye bags. You can apply sunscreen and other creams on it too.

The material, called Second Skin, is made up of siloxanes, which together form polymers.
The material is extremely thin and mimics those properties of younger skin.

To apply it, first a clear liquid is applied to the skin, then the Second Skin is applied, which adheres to the polymer. The skin stays on for a least a day, but can be washed off at any point using a solution that can dissolve the polymer material.

The product was funded by a biotech company called Living Proof, and is being developed by a company called Olivo Laboratories.

The work was published yesterday in the journal Nature Materials.

A stunning solution to a global health problem. Throw a fish into the cooking pot to beat iron deficiency. Just make sure your fish is made out of iron.

80% of people in the world don't have enough iron in their bodies. That's 2 billion people, we understand. Iron deficiency causes anemia in 30% of people. It was Dr.Christopher Charles who invented the original concept of the iron fish to deal with the problem of Cambodian women dying at childbirth due to iron deficiency. Now it is a global health movement. And he is on the board of The Lucky Iron Fish company founded by Gavin Armstrong,

The iron fish is shaped like a...well... like a fish, what else! All you need to do is wash the iron fish with soap, water and a soft cloth. Throw it in the cooking pot (1 litre water or broth with 2-3 drops of citrus juice, which is required for the absorption of iron) and boil it for 10 minutes then remove. This simple process releases 75% of your daily-required iron intake and the fish is reusable for up to 5 years.

If you are wondering why this miracle-iron is shaped like a fish and not..say a tomato, it's because fish is a symbol of luck in Cambodia, the country that inspired this health innovation.

REMEMBER HER NAME

She’s Margaret Hamilton. The woman who gave us the term “software engineering”. The woman whose handwritten code was important and integral for a safe moon-landing in 1969. The picture on the left shows her with the navigation software she and her team wrote for the Apollo project. Yeah, she rocks!
